The initiative reinforced that collaboration between development platforms and regional media is essential for bridging local aspirations with national agendas.

Beyond Borders Forum on Blue Economy & Regional Development

15 January 2026 — National Strategic Dialogue 2026: Indonesia’s Blue Economy, Bridging National Policy and Regional Implementation was held in collaboration with Maluku Tenggara Regency, OVOI Indonesia, Sekolah Pascasarjana Universitas Sahid, and JMSI (Jaringan Media Siber Indonesia). The forum brought together policymakers, academics, regional leaders, media representatives, and practitioners to explore how blue economy strategies can bridge national policy with local implementation. Maluku Tenggara Regency was highlighted as a strategic island region with strong potential in marine resources, tourism, and community-based development, reflecting the importance of local innovation in advancing Indonesia’s blue economy agenda.

The initiative reinforced that the blue economy is not only an environmental agenda, but a strategic pathway for strengthening regional resilience and sustainable national development.

Beyond Borders Forum on Blue Economy & Sustainable Island Development

8 October 2025 — Indonesia Blue Economy Forum, Sekolah Pascasarjana Universitas Sahid in collaboration with Beyond Borders Indonesia brought together academics, practitioners, and stakeholders to explore the role of the blue economy in advancing sustainable development across Indonesia’s coastal, island, and border regions. The discussion highlighted marine resources, sustainable livelihoods, and cross-sector collaboration as strategic drivers for economic resilience and inclusive growth.

The initiative reinforced that Indonesia’s oceans and island regions are not only natural assets, but critical foundations for sustainable national development.

Beyond Borders Expedition on Maritime Borders & Sustainable Tourism

15-16 June 2025 — Sail Natuna 2025 highlighted collaboration between Natuna Regency, BNPP RI, Beyond Borders Indonesia, OVOI Indonesia and strategic partners to strengthen Indonesia’s maritime border narrative through tourism, culture, and international connectivity. The initiative promoted border regions as gateways for sustainable tourism and global engagement, emphasizing the strategic role of outer islands in advancing local economies, cultural exchange, and inclusive regional development.

The initiative reinforced that maritime border regions are not peripheral territories, but strategic frontiers connecting Indonesia to global opportunities.

Beyond Borders Journey to Kei Besar, Maluku Tenggara Regency

4 November 2024 — Visit to SMK Kasih Theresia, Kei Besar brought together Beyond Borders Indonesia and education advocate Dr. Ni Wayan Giri Adnyani, widely recognized for her commitment to women’s empowerment and sustainable tourism. The visit explored educational opportunities and local challenges in one of Indonesia’s island regions, highlighting the role of vocational education in strengthening youth capacity, economic resilience, and sustainable community development.

The journey reinforced that equitable access to education is fundamental to empowering future generations in island and frontier communities.

26 November 2022 — Edu Sharing: Merdeka Belajar, Merdeka Mengajar di Perbatasan NKRI brought together educators, school leaders, and community representatives to discuss educational access and learning innovation in Indonesian border regions. The session explored challenges in border education, teacher empowerment, and collaborative approaches to strengthening inclusive learning ecosystems. The dialogue highlighted education as a critical foundation for building resilient communities and expanding opportunities in frontier areas.

Beyond Borders Talks on Sustainable Tourism & Community Development

4 November 2022 — Edu Sharing: Desa Wisata Ngilngof Menuju Desa Wisata Mandiri dan Berkelanjutan brought together local government, academics, and tourism practitioners to discuss strategies for developing Ngilngof as an independent and sustainable tourism village. The dialogue explored community-based tourism, destination management, and local economic empowerment as drivers of long-term resilience. The forum emphasized that sustainable tourism development should strengthen local communities while preserving cultural and environmental values.

The initiative reinforced that tourism villages can become catalysts for inclusive growth and sustainable development in island communities.

24 April 2021 — Building SDGs Villages in Indonesian Border Regions brought together representatives from government, academia, local communities, and development practitioners to discuss sustainable village development in border areas. The dialogue explored infrastructure, education, local livelihoods, and community empowerment as key components for achieving SDGs in frontier regions. The forum emphasized collaborative approaches to strengthening resilient, inclusive, and sustainable border communities across Indonesia.

22 December 2021 — FGD Atambua & Motaain Border Post brought together stakeholders through an FGD at PLBN Motaain, Belu, to explore cross-cultural communication between Indonesian and Timor-Leste border communities. The discussion highlighted border governance, local connectivity, social interaction, and community roles in strengthening resilience and regional development. The forum emphasized that border areas are not only geopolitical boundaries, but also spaces for collaboration, cultural exchange, and sustainable growth.
